Sr. Mary Catherine St. Martin, OP, dies
Sr. Mary Catherine St. Martin, OP, died April 19, 2025, at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wisconsin. Her Remembering Service and Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at St. Dominic Villa. Miller Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Sister Mary Catherine was born June 25, 1932, to Albert and Mildred (Hanrehan) St. Martin in Minneapolis, Minn. She made profession as a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa in 1953 and received the religious name Sister Alberto. She earned her BA in English from Rosary College, River Forest, Ill., and an MA in curriculum and administration from St. Xavier College, Chicago, Ill.
Her ministry was dedicated to teaching, administration, and health care. She taught at St. Giles School, Oak Park, Ill., where she also served as principal; St. Louis de Montfort School, Oak Lawn, Ill.; St. Thomas Apostle School and Epiphany School, Chicago; Risen Christ School and Holy Rosary School, Minneapolis, where she also served as principal; and St. Martin de Porres High School, Waukegan, Ill. Sister Mary Catherine also served as principal at Resurrection School, Minneapolis, and at St. Thomas More School, Chicago. She ministered at St. Dominic Villa in both Dubuque, Ia., and Sinsinawa, Wisconsin., as administrator and assistant prioress and was a pastoral caregiver at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa. Sr. Mary Catherine attended to each Sister with a deep love and compassionate spirit rooted in prayer.
Sister Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Thomas, Edward, and Jerome; and a sister, Bernadette St. Martin. She is survived by a sister, Clare Foley and her Dominican Sisters.
