Sr. Maureen Healy, OP , dies
Sister Maureen Healy, OP, died April 8, 2026, at Hospice of Spokane House, Spokane, Wash. Her wake will be held at 7 p.m., April 13 at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church, Spokane, and her Funeral Mass will take place there at 10 a.m., April 14. Holy Cross Funeral and Cemetery Services is handling arrangements.
Sister Maureen was born May 23, 1942, to Max and Mary (Tonani) Healy in Spokane, Wash. She made profession as a Poor School Sister of St. Dominic of Speyer, Germany, at Kettle Falls, Wash., in 1962 and received the religious name Sister Maria Kathleen. The congregation members at Kettle Falls became the Dominican Sisters of Spokane in 1986 and merged with the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1995. She earned her RN from Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane, and a BSN from Montana State University, Bozeman.
Sr. Maureen gave her heart to a lifelong nursing ministry. In Washington, she served as a nurse at St. Martin Hospital, Tonasket; and Spokane County Health District, Mukogawa Women’s University, Providence Holy Family Hospital, and Holy Family Hospital where she also was director of the emergency room, all Spokane. In Montana, she was a nurse at the Helena Health District and handled social work at Westmont Home Health Program in Helena. Over the years, she gifted many people with compassionate care, a listening presence, and a healing touch.
Sister Maureen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Michael Healy. She is survived by her Dominican Sisters.
